Banana Blossom stir fry



Here is a typical south In dian recipe which most of you will not be knowing.This is a delicious dish with lots of fibers .I just love it because it has got its own flavour ,smell and the chewy nature.Well all together i just can say that its my favorite dish.




Ingredients:

Banana flower/ blossom - 1 small and tender
coconut grates- 2 tsp
Jaggery -2 tsp
Tamarind -1 tsp
Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
Chilly powder -1 tsp
Mustard -1 tsp
cumin -1 tsp
Urad dal - 1 tsp
Dry chillies -2 large
Curry leaves -4-5
water - 2 cups
Salt - as per taste

Method:

1.Chop up the plantain flower after removing outer 2 layers and small flower buds inside the petals.
2.Then Take a large pan add 1 tsp oil to it and then add cumin ,just when it starts to splutter add the chopped flower.
3 .Add water ,tamarind,chilly and turmeric powder,salt ,jaggery and cook with closed lid on top for about 10 mins.
4.Stir and cook untill tender.Than in a pan add 1 tso oil,urad dal and mustar with chillies.Just when it splutters add curry leaves stir for 1 min and add it to the chopped plantain flowers.
5.Then add 2tsp of coconut grates or more and stir it and heat properly for 3 mins.Then remove it from fire
6.Serve hot with rice and ghee at the top.It tastes goos with curd rice also .Enjoy

Hi Soumya,I just love banana flower and banana stem.My mother makes a very simple but tasty curry with them.Oh,how I miss them here!curry looks nice.I'll bookmark it for trying when I go to India next.:)

i like this curry very much.we have banana trees at my mother's house..whenever the flower comes my mother makes this curry and some more dishes with it..i am missing them really by staying here...may be when i go to india i can have them...
