Ridge gaurd dal makhani



This is a delicious healthy recipe .Quick and easy to prepare and a realt treat to the tastebuds and stomach.This is vegetable which people try to avoid most of the time.But i will be comming up with many different flavoured recipes out of this single vegetable.This is one among them.

Ingredients:

Tuvar dal - 1 cup
Ridge gaurd - 1 large
Mustard - 1 tsp
Chilly powder -1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder -1/2 tsp
Salt -1.5 tsp
Green chillies -2
cumin -1 tsp
Pepper corn -1/2 tsp
Ghee -1 tsp
Hing -2 pinch
Lemon juice - 1/2 tsp
Dry chillies - 2
Urad dal -1/2 tsp
Curry leaves - 5-6


Method:

1.Pressure cook the dal with enough water and drop of oil,chilly powder,turmeric powder and salt and keep aside.
2.Chop the ridge gaurd into tiny chunks,add little water to it and cook them with little salt ,chilly powder for about 6-8 mins
3.To the cooked vegetable add the cooked dal ,green chillies ,hingand bring to a boil then reduce the heat
4.Take a spoon of ghee to it add mustards ,urad dal,cumin dry chillies and and when it splutters add curry leaves and add it to the curry.add lime juice and bring to a boil.
5.Serve with hot fresh rotis or rice.

You know, Soumya, here in Andhra, pappu beerakaaya (tur dal-ridge gourd) is a popular dal dish. Of course the prep is slightly different from yours.

Nice recipe using lemon and pepper. Will give it a try the next time I buy ridge gourd. I love this veggie and dont avoid it..:).

Soumya,
I like ridge gourd very much. We too make ridge gourd dal minus lemon and pepper though.
This is a different version of it. I would like to try next time.

Thanks dear.I also prepare that pappu with methi leaves and palak .But this gives a differnt flavour with lemon and pepper.Do give a try and lemme know.

oh i just love heere kai n so does K. i use onion and tomatoes and also coconut. this is new to me. will give it a try when i get holdof heere kai:)

this is a common dish known as beerakaya pappu in andhra pradesh.actually we don't add pepper.that is the difference.may be i can try ur version.nice picture.thanks for sharing..

This is my first vsit to your food blog.Yor recipes are awesome.I liked the combo of toor dal and ridgegourd.This is new to me as I usually cook with chana dal.
